Wildlife at Home

I believe there is enough wildlife on the property that I'll take pictures and post them here.

02 April 2007 This was a turtle that was crawling away from the pond that I saw from the porch.  After taking his picture, I dropped him over the fence where he could get to the canal that he was looking to get too.

13 May 2007 I see this Great Blue Heron almost every day. I haven't been able to get close enough to get a picture of him until now.  With the Olympus SP550-UZ 18x Optical Zoom, I'm still not that close, but it's close enough to get a good look.

Not sure what these are, but they appear to have a nest back in the bushes there.

This is a Water Turkey that was sunning himself on the bank with his wings spread wide.  I was hoping to get his picture there, but by the time I got my camera he had flown into the tree.  Maybe another time.

14 May 2007 I'm not sure what this is really called, but I've always known it as a Water Turkey.
A funny story goes along with these pictures too.  He wa sunning himself on the bank as you can see, but eventually took off for the trees by the pond again, but ran into the palm, and fell into the water.  I walked about beside the pond expecting to find him knocked out, but saw he'd swam under water for around 50 ft, only to stick his head out.  I managed to get a picture of that before he went under again.  I ended up taking a couple more pictures of the pond birds sitting on the bank.

20 May 2007 At around 8.30am I work up to a sound coming from another room. It sounded like someone was banging stuff around in the house.  Cautiously creeping out of the bedroom, I saw I had a Pileated Woodpecker on the window over the sink, tapping on the glass. Unfortunately, I didn't have my new camera ready, but the old one was on my desk, and I grabbed it to get the following shots.  The first is through the window, and the screen took the focus, but it shows that it was a pair.  The next couple of pictures were taken through the back door.
Finally, the last picture was taken later in the day.  I'd gone to the beach with Debbie, and while downloading the pics, I heard the banging again.  It was Woody Woodpecker on the back door putting holes in the siding.  This time I had the new camera, and managed to get a picture before he flew away.
I guess I shouldn't have taken the dead tree in the front yard down.  I'm beginning to suspect they may have lived in that tree.

21 May 2007 A very persistent bird.

Taking a walk around the yard, I decided I'd take a picture of the tree that I'd been talking about that I cut down.  Coming back to the house I saw he was back on the porch again.

I think I have a resident Water Turkey now.  Earlier pictures I've taken of him have been from a long distance.  This is the first time he's let me get closer, but it's late in the day, (along with me using Sports Mode and I believe that contributed to the grainy look of the pictures.

Just one of the many many squirels in the yard. I would have gotten more, but the dog isn't cooperating.

A new visitor to the pond, and a Blue Herring in the tree.

Walking Catfish.  So either it's raining fish, or I have walking catfish.
